Birds of the World – Raptor Experience in the grounds of the Stunning Invereck House

The Birds of the World Raptor Experience at Invereck House is our most bespoke and immersive experience, offering guests a rare opportunity to engage with an extraordinary team of birds of prey while exploring their global conservation stories.

This experience focuses not only on flying birds, but on the remarkable adaptations that allow raptors to survive and hunt, and the important role that captive birds play in education, conservation awareness, and reconnecting people with nature.

Guests will gain a deeper understanding of the individual stories within our raptor team, discovering how species from different parts of the world have evolved to thrive within their own environments.

The experience begins with two of the most charismatic members of the team — our Gymnogene (African Harrier Hawk) and Bateleur Eagle. These two birds are often described as the “Laurel and Hardy” of the collection: playful, intelligent, and full of personality. Internationally important species, they demonstrate remarkable adaptations and behaviour, often working alongside one another and sometimes competing for food in an engaging and lively display.

Guests will then be introduced to our kestrels, an iconic species of the British countryside. While famous for their dynamic and agile flight, kestrels have sadly faced serious population declines over recent decades. Their flight demonstrations showcase both their hunting adaptations and their spirited personalities.

The experience then moves into the estate grounds with our Harris hawks, where guests will take part in a short hawk walk around the Invereck estate. Known for their unique ability to hunt cooperatively, the hawks will fly alongside the group, offering many opportunities for guests to call the birds to the glove and experience the teamwork that lies at the heart of falconry.

The experience concludes with one of Britain’s most iconic birds of prey — Florence, our White-tailed Eagle. Once driven to extinction in the United Kingdom by 1906, this magnificent species has since been successfully reintroduced to parts of the country and remains a powerful symbol of conservation and wild landscapes. Seeing such a majestic bird up close offers a memorable finale to the experience.

Throughout the session there will be opportunities for photographs with the birds, allowing guests to capture moments with these remarkable ambassadors for the natural world.

These experiences are highly bespoke and intentionally intimate, designed for a maximum of four participants, ensuring a personal and meaningful encounter with each bird.

Participants should wear suitable outdoor clothing and good footwear, appropriate for time spent exploring the estate and the Scottish landscape.
