Half-Day Birds of Prey Experience in the grounds of the Stunning Invereck House

The Half-Day Birds of Prey Experience at Invereck House is an immersive three-and-a-half-hour session offering a deeper insight into the ancient art of falconry and the remarkable adaptations of birds of prey.

Guests are welcomed into one of Invereck’s elegant Victorian rooms, where the experience begins with tea or coffee and a relaxed introduction to the world of raptors. During this session we explore the history of falconry, the role birds of prey have played in human culture, and how today captive birds can help tell powerful stories about nature, conservation, and the relationship between species and their environments.

Using the beautiful gardens and estate at Invereck as our setting, we also discuss how birds and landscapes shape one another — and how different species have evolved unique adaptations to thrive within their habitats.

The practical experience then moves outdoors into the estate grounds.

Guests will first be introduced to Harris hawks, a wonderful species for learning the fundamentals of handling and the teamwork that exists between bird and falconer. Participants will experience the birds flying to the glove and working alongside the group through the estate.

We then move on to one of our owl species, exploring the remarkable differences between owls and hawks — from their silent flight to their distinctive hunting adaptations.

Finally, the experience concludes with one of our eagles and falcons, such as the kestrel, where guests will witness the elegance and precision of the falcon family as the birds fly swiftly through the air before returning to the gloved hand.

Throughout the session there will be opportunities to handle the birds and have photographs taken with each species in the beautiful surroundings of the Invereck estate.

These experiences are highly bespoke and intentionally intimate, designed for a maximum of four participants, allowing time to connect with the birds and fully appreciate the landscape.

Participants should wear appropriate outdoor clothing and good footwear, suitable for walking around the estate and changing Scottish weather conditions.
