A Truly Unique Opportunity

This is a truly unique opportunity to experience flying one of Britain’s most inspirational birds of prey – the magnificent White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla).

Closely related to the American Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), these remarkable raptors belong to the same genus, Haliaeetus (Sea Eagles), and share many fascinating behavioural traits.

This is not simply a chance to fly an eagle. It is an opportunity to experience the species in an iconic Scottish landscape that reflects its natural habitat. You will spend time with our resident White-tailed Eagle, Florence, before accompanying us to a secluded loch shore where she is free to fly amongst breathtaking scenery that is both peaceful and enchanting.

Our journey begins with a scenic drive of approximately 30 minutes to one of our carefully selected locations. Along the way, we will discuss the remarkable conservation success of the White-tailed Eagle in Britain, its ecology, natural history, hunting behaviour and its relationship to other members of the Haliaeetus family, including the Bald Eagle.

On arrival, you will be introduced to the GPS telemetry equipment used to monitor Florence during free flight. You’ll also gain an insight into modern falconry and eagle management, learning about her daily husbandry, dietary requirements, training methods and equipment, including the use of the hood and how it helps keep her calm and relaxed before flying.

We then make our way to the loch shore where Florence is given the freedom to fly in her natural surroundings. Watching a White-tailed Eagle soaring over a Scottish loch is an unforgettable sight. Subject to the day’s conditions and Florence’s willingness, guests will have the opportunity to call her back to the glove under our guidance.

There will be plenty of opportunities to capture stunning photographs throughout the experience, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

More than simply flying an eagle, this experience is about reconnecting with nature. The tranquillity of the landscape, the presence of one of Britain’s most iconic birds of prey and the richness of the surrounding wildlife combine to create an experience that is both inspiring and restorative. It offers a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the importance of conserving our wild places and the species that depend upon them.

Wildlife You May Encounter

The secluded loch and surrounding Atlantic rainforest are home to an abundance of wildlife. Depending on the season and a little luck, you may encounter:

• Curlew

• Oystercatchers

• Gannets

• Common Buzzards

• Ravens

• Red Squirrels

• Pine Martens

• Otters

• Grey Seals

• Red Deer

Every visit is different, making each experience completely unique.

Afterwards…

After our time with Florence, we’ll return to the award-winning Colintraive Hotel, where you can relax over some of the finest coffee and teas in Argyll.

And of course… don’t forget to try the homemade cake!

What to Wear

This experience takes place in a wild, natural environment and involves walking over uneven ground.

Please wear:

• Wellington boots or sturdy walking boots (no trainers or Crocs)

• Outdoor trousers

• A long-sleeved shirt

• Waterproof jacket and suitable outdoor clothing for the weather

We also recommend bringing:

• Binoculars

• A camera

• A small day pack for personal items

A reasonable level of mobility and fitness is required due to the uneven terrain.
